Oscar Smith held one of the state’s top offensive attacks to just six points, defeating Indian River 22-6 in front of a capacity crowd.

After a scoreless first quarter, Oscar Smith forced a fumble, giving them the ball back on the Braves’ 35-yard line.

Smith struck first shortly after, when star running back Brandon Nesbit scored on a 4-yard touchdown run giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

Oscar Smith scored again before the half when Nesbit tacked on a second touchdown from 10 yards out.

The Tigers kept pouring it on, adding a third quarter 4-yard touchdown from Ty’jae Curtis.

A Nesbit two-point conversion pushed the lead to 22-0, but Indian River mounted a comeback.

Quarterback Kamaari Kirby threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to explosive wide receiver Jakeyse Graves with 6:04 left in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 22-6.

The Braves were hoping to cut further into the deficit, but defensive back Jaden Dabbs made an athletic diving interception to end the drive.

The win keeps Oscar Smith on pace with Southeastern district rival King’s Fork.

Both teams improved to a 6-0 record, with a head-to-head matchup looming between the powerhouse programs on Oct. 25th at Oscar Smith with the District title on the line.
